n these ancient rooms, air moisture and temperature are constant throughout the year and ensure the ideal conditions for the aging in wood and bottle of each wine. Quality and longevity, after all, cannot be achieved in haste. Here live Castello di Montepò’s finest labels, from large formats up to 750 ml bottles. Our tour will take you first to the maturation area, home to barrels and barriques of different sizes, all selected according to principles dictated by Jacopo Biondi Santi himself and by the technical staff who works alongside him in the management of the cellar. As for the selection of wood, the company has carried out a series of tests which have narrowed the choice to three bespoke suppliers: the French Taransaud and Francois Fréres and the Austrian Stockinger. In addition to the 4 large 28.5-hectolitre barrels and the famous T5, we find over a hundred 225-liter barriques, all medium / light toasted.

he use of barriques is diversified by grape variety and wine, according to a recipe shared by a small number of trusted people. The evolution and cuts for the final assembly are carried out on each vintage to ensure all the personality and consistent quality that Castello di Montepò is known for. The “caveau” is located on the lower floor, in the rooms once used as prisons. It is the treasure chest of Castello di Montepò, its most intimate and secret place. Pyramids of bottles of Schidione III Millennium, and all the vintages of the rare and precious Schidione. But also Sassoalloro, Castello di Montepò’s most iconic and best-known wine.

Visiting Castello di Montepò is a very special experience. As soon as you reach the reception point, you’ll be taken on a guided tour of the family estate and the castle, the productive heart of the company and the private residence of Jacopo Biondi Santi.

Outside the Castle

Upon reaching the parking area, located close to the company Wineshop, you will be greeted by our wine experience manager who oversees the accreditation of all our guests.

Inside the Castle

Once you have crossed the threshold of Castello di Montepò, you will fully experience the magic of this enchanted place.

The Tasting Room

On the eastern side of the castle’s courtyard, under the portico, we find the entrance to the grand tasting room where the wines of Castello di Montepò are celebrated.
